FIFTY-SEVEN/ OFW S/S'14 day three

I didn't have a ton of time to get ready for the third day of Ottawa Fashion Week. I just threw on my favourite black dress, my favourite blazer, my favourite scarf and my go-to leggings, the glittery converse were thrown on at the very end just to jazz up the look. It's a well known fact that I'm most comfortable in all black and leopard print pair with gold accessories and a bold lip - I felt very in my element. Laura on the other hand feels more at ease in an eccentric vintage jumpsuit, I feel like we balanced each other out.

Once again, we arrived fashionably late and only caught the last two shows. It seems as though it's our tradition to do so. The last two shows were Prophetik, which was a phenomenal showing, and an Ottawa Celebrity walk. The celebrity walk included local celebs that displayed pieces from designers that showed throughout the weekend. All in all it was a good way to end Ottawa fashion Week(end).

FIFTY-SIX/ OFW S/S'14 day two

I had a lot more fun on the second day of Ottawa Fashion Week. The setting seemed a lot more relaxed and way more casual than it did the first night; my guess is that everyone was a little on edge the first night and they were unsure of what to expect, but who knows the actual reasoning behind it. Laura and I, along with her friend Aurélia and a local photographer Gabrielle, showed up (fashionably) late and only caught the last few shows. But oh. my. god. they were fantastic.

My favourite of the the night was Beaucoup Fashion House. I've never seen or heard of them before but they're definitely on my radar now. I highly suggest that you check them out. They showcased a lot of shiny black, greys, purples and soft grunge pieces. My favourite looks were a tunic length sleeveless white blouse with a contrasting collar as well as a plaid dress paired with metallic black/gold moto jacket. All of the pieces were definitely on trend and most importantly, wearable.

My other favourite show of the night was Y!D.N.A. by Andy Nguyen. Y!D.N.A. is always a crowd favourite and it's easy to see why. Drastic silhouettes, monochromatic colour palettes and surprising twist are always to be expected during Andy's shows. This season he kept the audience of the edge of their seats by laying out a cover on top of the runway. The cover appeared black from where I was seated, but it turns out it was a shiny silvery tone. The models were all decked out in black ensembles, except for one lucky model wearing a head to toe silver short suit. All of the models were wearing tiny crowns upon their head. The showing was short but sweet and ended with confetti. I can't wait to see what this label has in store for us next season.

As for my own outfit, I decided to look a little bit crazy. I was so bored with my outfit from the previous night I decided to wear my eye-catching chartreuse duster from H&M paired with my Beetlejuice-esque skinny jeans from Forever 21. Laura encouraged me to wear black lipstick to polish off the look, and I'm so happy I took her advice. I feel the lipstick added much needed drama to the look. I paired this look off with my trusty black worn-out Dr. Marten boots because they're something of a safety blanket for me - I feel like I can do anything, or pull off any look, just as long as I'm wearing my docs.

FIFTY-FIVE/ OFW S/S'13 day one

Oh September, how I love you. From the chilly air to the falling leaves to fashion weeks all over the world. Who doesn't love Autumn? This past weekend was Ottawa Fashion Week (OFW) and that's when all of the fashion lovers in Ottawa and Gatineau come out of hiding (so it seems) and try to out style one another (or so it seems). All jokes aside, it actually is a great weekend and it's great to see a lot of people in from my city out and about and expressing their love for different fashions. I was fortunate enough to receive a media pass from the organizers at OFW and I'm beyond thankful for that. I of course went with Laura and we were up to our usual shenanigans. I'm still on a fashion high from all of the great looks that weekend, on and off the runway.

I didn't really figure out the proper camera settings for the runway shows until the very last day, of course, and my posts will totally reflect this. But for the first night of Ottawa Fashion Week my favourite show, by far, was Brit Wacher. I'm still obsessed with monochromatic looks and I'm a complete sucker for drastic and structured pieces and every piece of that collection materialized those looks.

I never know what to wear to these occasions. I either dress too causal, too dressy, too outrageous or too boring. I think my first outfit would fall under the "too boring" category, but I was comfortable and felt at ease. That's all that matters, right? I wore my favourite jacket by Calvin Klein paired with a black and white stripe dress from the good old Old Navy sale rack. You can't see my shiny leggings or black creepers, so you might have to use your imagination on that one, but believe me they're there. In all honesty I didn't plan this outfit out at all and I didn't even have time to change my purse so I just grabbed my everyday Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and prayed it worked. I swear my outfit for the next couple of days was better planned than this.

THIRTY-ONE/ ottawa fashion week

So last night I went to Ottawa Fashion Week with my best friend, Laura. It was kind of a spur of the moment, bought my ticket at the door, sort of evening and I'm really happy I went. The couple of shows we saw were phenomenal and we met some pretty awesome people. I wore my trusted crested Ralph Lauren blazer, my new favourite black skinny jeans, my makes-anything-look-glamorous faux fur stole, my favourite polka dot blouse, my awesome thrift store find box-bag and a ton of gold coloured accessories. I was trying to go for a classic look with funky and personal accents. I pulled the entire look together with my dark burgundy coloured lips.

The Ottawa fashion scene is still small, but it is growing. It was fantastic to see a lot of people in my city come together to admire different fashions. Everyone looked great last night and I was exposed to a bunch of talented designers.
