STYLE ICON SATURDAY/ nineteen

DEMI LOVATO
Demetria Devonne "Demi" Lovato

Every time I see a magazine with Demi on the cover, I have to pick it up and read through it. I have to soak up as much knowledge as humanly possible on this woman. I read every internet article I can find about her, and I listen to her latest album, Demi, on repeat. I think it's safe to say that I have a bit of an obsession with her right now and I think everyone I know personally can back me up that statement. There is just something so addictive about her. She's a multi-talented, fashion superstar and she's an insanely strong individual - oh, and she only turned 21 recently. I really wish I had someone like her to look up to when I was younger.

Let's put her music and flawless sense of personal style on the back burner for a second and discuss her strength, shall we? Even if your knowledge on Demi is minimal, chances are you've heard a little bit of what she's been through. She was victim of bullies in her adolescence, she grew up in the limelight and she has suffered from a handful of mental health issues. Demi has received rehab treatment for bulimia, self harm, self medication and was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. If you've ever suffered from any one of those you know how hellish it is and how excruciatingly difficult it is to speak about it. She could have easily just faded into the background and let those addictions and conditions take over her life. She could have suffered in silence for even longer but after an incident and an intervention from her family and friends, she got help and she is now devoting her life to help young girls, and boys, know that they aren't alone. She encourages them to stay strong, and to encourage them to seek help as well. She does this through her music, through media and social media outlets and she is even a contributing editor for Seventeen Magazine, where she discusses mental health.

Now that I got that out of my system, let me gush about her style. She is definitely the most rockerish out of the most recent Disney "Princesses" and I believe that her personal style really resembles my own. She often wears head-to-toe black, leather, spikes with a bold pattern thrown in here and there. I would love to take a peak at her lipstick collection because her lips are always painted in the most beautiful tones, and her eyebrows are something that I dream about at night. Her style is fairly easy to mimic as well, seeing as she is often spotted wearing outfits completely made out of Topshop pieces.

"Never be ashamed of what you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion that you want, and to do what makes you happy. That's my life motto." - Demi Lovato

THIRTY-SIX/ blundstone love

I am happy to announce that I am the proud owner of a new pair of beautiful Blundstone boots. I have been lusting over these boots for what seems like forever and they're finally mine! They came into my work a couple of days ago and I snatched them up without any hesitation. Sometimes waiting pays off.

They are just so gorgeous and so comfortable, I really don't know what to do with myself. A lot of  you probably read the word 'gorgeous' and immediately called me nuts, but I just love the look of a Chelsea boot. To be completely honest with you, I had originally wanted the look-a-like by Dr. Martens, simply because I'm just -that- loyal to the brand, but you can never argue with the original. Seeing as I got them secondhand, I got an amazing price on them as well. Now they are definitely not the most ~glamorous~ boot in the entire world, but they can be worn in so many ways and they are just so functional, and that's essential for the climate I live in.

I imagine myself getting a lot of use out of them and if the quality holds up to all the hype, I'll be wearing them for years. This is a bit of a preview of what I'll be wearing them with. You can never go wrong with a military inspired coat, vintage looking leather bag, spikes and black skinny jeans.

TWENTY/ faux fur jacket

I don't know if it's because the weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter or almost all the trees are bare but I'm finding myself adding more and more greys, nudes and earth tones into my every day outfits. The only weird part of this means I'm wearing less black. I'm just as shocked as you are.

I am head over heels in love with my new Jones New York jacket I picked up from Rikochet Resale. I love the big faux fur collar and I'm even learning to love the puff balls at the end of each sleeve. I swear, I'm never taking this off! It's super flattering and it's something you can dress up or wear casually but still feel classy wearing while running errands. It has a great vintage vibe to it as well. My Topshop brown purse is probably my favourite purse I own now. It's super tiny so it's a bit impractical (it fits next to nothing) but I really can't stop wearing it. I bought my Converse on sale at Winners for only $28 dollars plus taxes, seriously how could I not take them home? I've had my H&M circle scarf forever but I still find myself wearing it almost daily, as you know I'm addicted to leopard prints.

While we're on the topic of Vintage, Ose of oseuhseh.com contacted me the other day with an amazing offer for my readers. Ose reconstructs breathtaking plus size vintage clothing (sizes 12 - 22) and sells them on her website. She's giving my readers 10% off her entire boutique with the coupon code 2ndhandRose4Ose. Her shop has some pretty amazing finds and I truly recommend that you all check it out!
